Jeff DiCicco - PROFILEJeff DiCicco’s artistic abilities and passion for the automobile were both recognized very early in his life. Ever since, they have been the subjects of his work. As a photo-realist artist, DiCicco considers composition, color and balance to be the key components in creating a successful painting. By focusing on a single element of the car’s body, DiCicco’s oils cross-section the automobile, never revealing it in its entirety. His most recent concept, "auto obscure," brings the viewer even closer to the subject, challenging them to decipher exactly what it is they are looking at. His objective: to create a relationship between the style of photo-realism and composition of abstract expressionism. DiCicco believes the most creative aspect of his work comes from developing the compositions. "This is the fun part…" he says. "…but it turns very technical thereafter. Creating paint palettes of the numerous colors that make up the one single color of the automotive body alone takes a great deal of time and concentration. They all have to work together in visual harmony. The way light and reflection effects that one color is truly remarkable… and naturally this is one of the elements I’m attracted to when selecting the imagery for my paintings." DiCicco graduated with a BFA from VCU in Richmond, Virginia. He was featured in the internationally circulated publication, The Robb Report and was the first artist to have a solo exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum. |
